Yoga & Meditation

I primarily teach Vinyasa yoga, Hatha yoga, and Yin yoga.

Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic yoga that coordinates movement and breathing in a flow, a continuous sequence of postures (asanas).

Hatha yoga is not practiced in a flow fashion. The postures are held for longer periods, allowing for particular attention to be paid to the breath and body alignment.

Yin yoga, on the other hand, is a gentle and restorative form of yoga. The postures are more passive, seated or lying down, held for three to five minutes, to give the opportunity to calm the body and mind, to let go and to reach a meditative state.

I begin each of my classes with a meditation and always end them with a Savasana, which is a final relaxation.

The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word yug, which means union. In spiritual terms, it is the union between individual consciousness and universal consciousness.

In more practical terms, yoga is a way to balance and harmonize the body, mind, and emotions. This is achieved through the practice of asanas (postures), but also pranayamas (breathing exercises), mudras (gestures), bandhas (locks), shatkarmas (purification techniques), and meditation.

Benefits of Yoga:
• Reduces stress and tension.
• Helps to relax and concentrate.
• Strengthens and/or develops muscles.

Improves posture and protects the spine.
• Improves flexibility.
• Strengthens bones and prevents joint damage.
• Improves cardiovascular health.
• Increases blood circulation.

Lowers blood pressure.
• Stimulates the immune system.
